Group Volunteering
First, thank you so much for thinking of us for your group!
Most of our current areas of need are small-group, in-person, volunteer opportunities that folks can sign up for at or around the same time.
The best first step is to sign up to volunteer via our webpage and register on our volunteer support platform, Amplify. (Instructions on “how to” are in the second part of the orientation video).
Some questions to gather about your group’s needs:
- What types of opportunities would your group members be most interested in?
- What is the size of your group?
- Do the volunteer activities have to be all together, or can the group be separated?
- Is there a specific date/time you’re looking to volunteer?
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Please note that animal handling opportunities on campus (like shelter cat enrichment or shelter dog walking on campus) require a bit of training first.
However, here are a few entry-level activities to consider:
- Paws & Purpose Program (opportunity is available most days, 7am-11am or 3pm-7pm): work alongside our animal care team members, helping with tasks such as cleaning kennels, laundry, dishes and feeding at the 71 Oglethorpe Street NW shelter location. Please note: This role does not involve direct animal handling. We can generally accommodate 3-4 people at a given shift time.
- Pet Pantry Program (see specific dates and times): provide free food, litter, and other supplies to pet owners in the community. Volunteers assist with distribution on-location or pre-packaging food during prep sessions. Come ready for lifting, loading, talking to the community and getting your heart pumping. We can generally accommodate 10+ people at a given time.
- Weekly Vaccination Clinic (see specific dates and times): assist with check-in, client consultations, record-keeping, and payments at our vaccine at clinics at 71 Oglethorpe Street NW. Volunteers should be comfortable using a laptop or tablet, interacting with clients, reviewing pet medical records, and following clinic guidelines to support pets in need! We can generally accommodate up to 6 people at a given time
- Dog Field Trip Program (as determined): Break into teams of 2 for off-site field trip opportunities for dogs (e.g., take a dog out for a few hours - you can go for a long walk, take a car ride and get a puppachino, have an adventure at a splash pad, etc.). Collect the stories, photos and videos needed to get them adopted! We can generally accommodate 10+ teams of 2 = 20+ participants.
- Campus Beautification (as determined): Help us spruce up the shelter and play areas by cleaning up litter, gardening, painting, building poop bag stations, etc., to create a better space for people and dogs. Join us to make a hands-on impact and keep our shelter welcoming, clean and fun! We ask that large groups take part in the supplies and donations collection to give us the resources to fuel these new projects. We can generally accommodate 10+ people at a given time.
- Supply Drive: We have limited resources, but we are scrappy! Our animal care, pet pantry and foster teams want to keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching with these high-demand items including leashes, string cheese, hot dogs, cardboard cat carriers, flat bed sheets, towels, kitten scales, snuggle safes, and indestructible chews like benebones. Whether you host a mini drive or bring in a few extras, every donation makes a difference!
