How do I know if a specific animal is available?
All of our available animals are posted to our website in real time as they become ready for adoption. We encourage community members to check our website often, reach out to our foster caregivers for more information on individual animals in foster, or stop by the shelter during open hours. How can I access microchip information/How do I activate a microchip?
An adopted pet’s microchip information will be provided at the time of adoption. This chip is a vital tool to help reunite owners with their pet if they ever become lost. We’ll ensure the registration is updated with the adopter’s contact information and we’re happy to answer any questions about how microchips work or how to keep details current.
How do I return an animal that I adopted from HRA?
Sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts and intentions, an adoption may not work out. If an adopter needs to return a pet within 30 days of adoption, we will work with them to schedule a return appointment during one of our designated time slots. If the situation is urgent and the pet needs to come back right away, we will do our best to accommodate a same-day return.
If more than 30 days have passed, we’ll begin by learning more about the pet’s current behavior, health, and environment. From there, we’ll offer guidance on the most appropriate next steps. Depending on your pet’s needs and our shelter’s current capacity, this may involve returning the pet to HRA or coordinating with a shelter closer to your home.
