What services do we offer to public animals?
We offer a variety of low-cost services to help keep pets healthy and well-cared for, including:
- Vaccines to protect against common preventable diseases
- Preventatives for heartworm, flea, and tick control
- Dental care to maintain pet’s oral health
- Skin and ear preventative maintenance products to keep pets comfortable and healthy
These services are designed to make veterinary care more accessible for the community and ensure pets stay happy and healthy.
What services do we offer to animals that have been adopted through HRA?
We’re committed to supporting adopters even after they bring their new pet home. Animals adopted through HRA are eligible for:
- Heartworm preventatives for up to 30 days after adoption—no vaccine clinic appointment needed.
- A 10% off coupon for preventative maintenance care products, such as flea/tick and ear care items.
These post-adoption benefits are our way of helping pets and their families start off strong together.
What is the schedule for spay and neuter clinics?
At this time, we are not offering public spay/neuter services except through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program for community cats.
The TNR clinic is currently held on the second Sunday of each month, though this schedule is subject to change. We recommend checking our Community Cats page or emailing TNR@humanerescuealliance.org for the most up-to-date information.
What is the schedule for vaccine clinics?
Our community vaccine clinic is held at 71 Oglethorpe St. NW, Washington, DC on the following days:
- Tuesdays from 10 AM – 12 PM
- Thursdays from 4 PM to 7 PM
- Every other Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM
We recommend checking our website to confirm dates, especially for Saturday clinics as they alternate. Services are available by appointment only, which can be made online through our Community Medicine Scheduler.
What should I do if my pet is experiencing a medical emergency?
If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please seek immediate care at a local emergency veterinary clinic. While the Humane Rescue Alliance does not provide emergency medical services, we want to ensure your pet receives the care they need as quickly as possible.
For a list of nearby urgent care and emergency veterinary facilities, please visit our medical lobby or contact us by phone or email, and we’ll gladly provide more information.
What is the process for owner requested euthanasia?
We understand that considering euthanasia for a beloved pet is an incredibly difficult and emotional decision. If a pet owner is facing this situation, our Pet Support team is here to talk, offer guidance, and help pet owners explore all available options.
If euthanasia is determined to be the most humane choice, we will work with pet owners to schedule an appointment and ensure the process is handled with care, respect, and compassion.
Do we do walk-ins for owner requested euthanasia?
Euthanasia services are available by appointment only.
